Castings make up an important segment in the range of products that Temming GmbH & Co. KG offer, with concentration in particular on gray iron nodular graphite cast iron components. In the modern casting plants of our partners, the materials GG 15 to G 30 as well as GGG 40.3 to GGG 70 with part weights from 300 g up to 6 t are produced – in some cases part weights up to 15 t are possible. On request, Temming GmbH & Co. KG can also offer any part finished, primed, painted, and preservative-coated.

Material Composition and Properties
Grey iron mainly consists of iron, carbon, and silicon. The carbon content typically ranges from 2.1% to 4%. The presence of graphite in the form of flakes is a distinct feature of grey iron. This graphite structure endows grey iron with certain unique properties.It has excellent machinability. The graphite flakes act as a kind of "lubricant" during machining processes, reducing tool wear and enabling smooth cutting operations.Grey iron also shows good wear resistance in some applications. The hardness and the presence of graphite contribute to its ability to resist wear, especially in situations involving friction.

In the automotive industry, grey iron casting parts play important roles. For instance, engine blocks and cylinder heads are often made of grey iron. The engine block needs to bear pressure and has good heat dissipation ability, and grey iron meets these requirements well. Brake drums are also commonly made of grey iron.
In the construction field, grey iron is used for manufacturing pipes, valves, and some structural elements within buildings.
In machinery manufacturing, parts such as machine tool beds, gears, and housings are frequently made of grey iron.

It has good casting and cutting properties and good wear resistance. Used to manufacture frames, boxes, etc. The graphite of gray cast iron is flake, the effective bearing area is relatively small, and the graphite tip is easy to produce stress concentration, so the strength, plasticity and toughness of gray cast iron are lower than other cast iron. But it has excellent vibration damping property, low notch sensitivity and high wear resistance.
