En raison de la pénétration du piston dans le cylindre, la pression augmente. Quand la force extérieure diminue, le piston retourne à sa position initiale.
Ce vérin à gaz doit toujours être monté avec la tige dirigée vers le bas. Ainsi, le joint est continuellement lubrifié.
