Wherever special workpieces are required in large numbers, prefabricated components are always happily fallen back. The term components usually refers to components that have been assembled from a variety of materials into a pre-assembled element, and which can then be inserted and installed in the intended environment. The term "component" is mainly used in two different sectors: in electrical engineering and construction.

In electrical engineering and electronics, parts for electrical circuits as well as construction units are also called components. Examples of this in the electrical system are for example: diodes, transistors, resistors and capacitors and in electronics for example semiconductors, electron tubes and integrated circuits. Electrical and electronic components are usually installed on circuit boards.

To distinguish themselves from the assemblies in electrical engineering, one speaks in construction also of "modern elements". These modern devices called industrially mass-produced windows, doors, shutters, awnings, porches, stairs and various other components are used in construction. These are made in factories on a schedule by machines, delivered to the construction site and then installed in the pre door and window openings.

So for new buildings, but also in building renovations to entire city blocks and entire streets pre-made window or door elements are installed within a short period of time.
