Stud welding is also referred to as arc welding, as it belongs to the arc pressure welding process. The principle aim of these devices is a permanent connection between studs or bold-shaped components and larger components such as body parts.  These processes are used in particular in the automobile industry.
The function amounts to an arc which is kindled between stud and workpiece.
Here both parts are merged together and can be joined with light contact pressure. There are two methods, the arc welding with tip ignition and drawn arc welding. Stud welding is understood according to DIN 1910-1 ( DIN 1910-1 has been replaced in many areas by DIN ISO 857-1 )as the indissoluble connection of components by applying heat and/or pressure - without or with filler metal.
Particularly common is the fusion welding of two usually metallic materials.
The connection is made depending on the welding process in a weldseam or a weld spot. The necessary energy for welding is supplied externally.
