Die Geschichte der Tissue Sp. z o.o. geht auf die dreißiger Jahre voriges Jahrhunderts zurück, als das deutsche Unternehmen eine Zellstofffabrik in Kostrzyn aufgebaut hat. Dieses Werk wurde jedoch im Zweiten Weltkrieg fast vollständig zerstört. In den fünfziger Jahren wurde jedoch sein Wiederaufbau aufgenommen und in den darauffolgenden Jahren wurde die Fabrik schrittweise entwickelt. Im Jahr 1990 wurde die Papierfabrik Kostrzyn in eine Gesellschaft des Staatsschatzes umgewandelt und dann an den schwedischen Papierkonzern TREBRUK AB verkauft. Da die Schweden das Kopierpapier produziert haben, und nicht das Tissuepapier, das mit anderen Maschinen hergestellt wurde, und die daraus gewonnenen Produkte, entstand eine neue Firma Hanke Tissue und die Hälfte der Anteile davon wurde en ein deutsches Unternehmen Hanke Papier aus Dortmund verkauft. Letztlich wurde Hanke Papier durch den Rückkauf der verbleibenden 50% Anteile im Jahr 1998 zum alleinigen Eigentümer der Firma Hanke Papier. Die Eigentumsverhältnisse haben sich 2006 geändert, als angesichts der finanziellen Probleme des damaligen Eigentümers, die deutsche Gruppe MBB Industries AB 100% Anteile an der Hanke Tissue sp. z o.o. gekauft hat.
