Filter Type W is a very economical strainer:
Its pressure loss is only 50% in comparison to conventional pot / basket strainers and only 25% in comparison to Y-Filters of same dimension and sieve mesh.
This advantage reduces the cost of pump energy and result in extended reserves until the cleaning cycle. Connectors for the differential pressure are standard from size DN 150 and above (below upon request possible).
The streamlined angle of impact between the flow and the sieve / screen results in a slowly increasing pressure loss, caused by dirt, and at least more than double the operational time before cleaning.
As the cleaning cover is located at the top, the rare cleaning cycle is easily and conveniently carried out. The sieve is a closed basket and simultaneously serves the complete removal of the dirt – hence the remaining medium is already cleaned and can be just drained.
Traditional pot or basket strainers are limited by their horizontal installation in pipelines.
In the past, the option to utilise a strainer also in vertical mounting was only provided by Y-Filters – with its given disadvantages of high flow resistance and inconvenient handling of the cover for removal of the sieve (net weight of the cover, overhead work).
The Filter Type W, however, can be installed in both ways – with its given advantages in regards to minimal pressure losses and low frequency of maintenance.
In addition, equipping the Filter Type W with swivel (horizontal) or swing arm (vertikal) provides the maintenance personnel easier handling of the cover and a crane-independent removal of the sieve – with the dirt for cleaning.

Cleaning of the flowing medium.
These two primary tasks are valid in all areas of application – regardless whether the media are:
- Hot water (district heating systems)
- Cold water (Cooling Systems, municipal applications)
- Hydrocarbons (pumping of oil, petroleum, LNG/LPG)
- Acids or alkalis (chemical plants).
Generally, these tasks are fulfilled by all commercially available filter types, however with high energy requirement and frequent maintenance intervals. Additional cost for shutdown and cleaning could also be reduced.

The reason for this is the installation of common strainers with respective high flow resistance figures (ζ = 3 ... 7 and higher).
