Frequency converters are widely used in industry. They allow the application of less expensive standard motors in wide speed range. In particular with three-phase motors there are reasonable application areas. It allows a converter with vector controls, even after an induction motor has completed the full turning moment to standstill.
If three-phase motors are powered by a fixed grid of 50-Hz they only turn with one velocity. In the start-up there are great difficulties encountered with expensive gimmicks. The convertor makes it possible to adjust the continuous velocity from 0Hz to above the nominal speed.
