From a blacksmiths shop in Schwabach a metal products factory was built in 1938, which expanded worldwide. After the first electric motors were developed and produced in 1951, in 1961 the current headquarter, the plant in Kelheim was opened. In 1968 another division in Kelheim, specialized in system units and 1995, the subsidiary Heidrive s.r.o. in Mrakov, Czech Republic were established. Since January 2015 the division system technology is now represented under the own corporate name Pasotec GmbH and has taken over an important place in the company structure as subsidiary of Heidrive GmbH.
Since January 2016, the company Heidrive GmbH is part of the U.S. American drive technology manufacturer Allied Motion Technologies Inc.
