In 1991, following the reunification of Germany, the company acquired shares in East German sugar companies through its subsidiary Diamant-Zucker KG. In 1993, one of the most modern sugar factories in Europe began operations in Könnern/Saxony-Anhalt. In the West, Pfeifer & Langen owns four sugar factories – the Appeldorn, Elsdorf, Euskirchen and Lage locations. Beyond that stakes in sugar factories in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, Italia and Ukrania were acquired.
