Al in de jaren dertig hield Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Zickel zich bezig met de mogelijkheden van thermoplastische en thermohardende kunststoffen voor de voertuig- en machinebouw. In 1958 richtten Dipl.-Ing. H. Zickel en de reder W. Bruns het bedrijf Industrie Plastic Zickel GmbH & Co KG op, tegenwoordig ook kortweg I-plastic Bonn genoemd.
Door hun uitstekende technische eigenschappen zijn de Biplast glijbaanbekledingen die zijn ontwikkeld voor de constructie van werktuigmachines geen alternatief voor metalen glijmaterialen. Ze worden nog steeds wereldwijd met groot succes gebruikt.
