Innovations for more than 150 years
The company was founded in 1863 in Mannheim, Germany, as a brickyard and succeeded in developing its first pathbreaking innovation, chemical stoneware, in 1888. Numerous new developments followed. Among other things, the company started in the mid of the past century processing plastics and combined modern and traditional materials when producing chemical devices and facilities.
The following years were characterised by the expansion in the core business and the opening up of more and more new business segments. As Deutsche Steinzeug and later as Friedrichsfeld GmbH, the company, which has been operating under the name FRIATEC AG since 1993, continuously developed to become an internationally active, diversified company.
Spectrum of innovative solutions
As such, FRIATEC AG today offers a spectrum of innovative solutions for many industries, e.g. jointing technology for pipe systems, special pumps for aggressive, volatile or explosive media, but also ceramic components which are used in laboratory and electrical engineering but also in medical engineering. With its sophisticated solutions, FRIATEC AG is not only among the most well-known and well-established companies in the metropolitan region Rhine-Neckar but is also one of the global market leaders of its industry.
Partner of a powerful community
Since 2003, FRIATEC AG has been a member of the ALIAXIS group of companies with headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. ALIAXIS is the worldwide largest producer of plastic pipe systems for the construction industry, the industry and utilities.

TQS - Een jong bedrijf met een lange traditie
In 1910 werd het bedrijf in Berlijn opgericht als Deutsch-Englische-Quarzschmelze GmbH. De onderneming produceerde hoofdzakelijk gesmolten siliciumdioxideproducten voor diverse toepassingen in de chemische industrie, die toen nog jong en bloeiend was.
In 1957 verhuisde het bedrijf naar Mainz en werd daar tot 1965 geleid als een joint venture van TSL - Thermal Syndicate Ltd. (Engeland) en Jenaer Glaswerke Schott+Genossen (Duitsland).
In 1965 - inmiddels een volledige dochteronderneming van de TSL-groep - verplaatste het bedrijf zijn hoofdkantoor naar Wiesbaden en opereerde voortaan onder de naam TQS - Thermal Quarz-Schmelze GmbH.
Vanaf die tijd lag het zwaartepunt in Wiesbaden op de voortdurende ontwikkeling van infrarode kwartsstralers en onderdelen van optisch kwartsglas. Er werd altijd veel belang gehecht aan een nauwe samenwerking met de klanten. Zo konden in de loop der jaren samen vele nieuwe ontwikkelingen en verbeteringen tot een succes worden gebracht.
In 1988 werd de hele TSL-groep overgenomen door de Franse Saint-Gobain Groep.
Vanaf 2000 opereerde de in Wiesbaden gevestigde onderneming onder de naam Saint-Gobain Quartz GmbH, Wiesbaden.
In 2009 kon de onderneming zich via een management buy-out een juridisch onafhankelijk kader geven onder het nog steeds bekende logo TQS – Technical Quartz Solutions GmbH -.
De laatste stap in de lange geschiedenis van TQS® vond begin 2015 plaats, toen het in Frankfurt gevestigde exportbedrijf VS Technical Supplies GmbH 100 procent van de aandelen in TQS® verwierf.
Vandaag is de heer Volker Schmidt verantwoordelijk voor het management.

We look back on insulator manufacturing over more than 25 years in our Austrian production site in Peggau.
On 3.000 m² GIPRO offers a machine park of more than 25 manufacturing machines, equipped with most modern and automated production methods. Therefore we are able to make high-quality insulators together with a reasonable price-level.
