The warehouse and its significance A warehouse is usually a room or an area with the task of storing raw materials, merchandise or other material goods for an indefinite period. Entering the goods makes sense in terms of quantity and value. The main reasons for warehousing are backup functions, time bridging tasks and change functions.A warehouse should ensure that goods are available in sufficient quantity at all times in the event of a delivery bottleneck or delivery failure. The change function is important for goods that still need to change in order to be saleable (for example wine; storage in barrels). As the individual functions of the warehouse can be distinguished, the type of warehouse can also be differentiated. A main distinction is made between open and closed bearings. This usually depends on whether goods are at risk, possibly due to environmental influences, or theft. Here a company will prefer closed or secured warehouses. However, it is not possible to store any number of goods, firstly due to a lack of space, and secondly because it is important to take the liquidity of the company into account. Stocked goods are tied up capital.
