The absorption refrigeration systems belonging to BTB use water as the refrigerant and cool to a cold water temperature of up to 6 °C. These machines are not powered using electricity but using heat. This method of producing cooling energy is always worthwhile if the machines can be run on the heat produced as a by-product from the CHP plant. Thus, the cooling energy is produced environmentally friendly as it does not damage the ozone layer.
