A cannulated ball as a device inside a fitting. For example, a 90-degree rotation completely blocks the flow of a pipeline. Do not confuse the ball valves with the ball valves. The latter is more to be assigned to the check valves. One differentiates between full flow and reduced flow. At a full passage the bore has the same inner diameter as the pipeline. The reduced passage can vary, however, but is usually smaller than the inner diameter. The closing device can consist of a freely floating or a guided ball. A special form is the three-way ball valve, where the ball has a so-called L-bore. ball stop valves are used in pipelines. These pipelines are rather large in diameter, so larger forces act there. This is why an oval ball is often used there as a locking device. They are also used for laying water and gas pipelines. For example, ball valves are used in the construction of solar systems, as well as in front of water meters in apartments and houses. The practical benefit is that no major water damage can occur if the apartment or house is not used. Turning the shut-off valve lever 90 degrees stops the water supply.
