The term"residential houses" is usually used to describe a multi-storey building. In order to combat the massive housing shortage of the seventies, a large prefabricated building programme was launched. With prefabricated panel parts, whole rows of houses could be built in a very short time.In the context of the reunification, a large number of houses were sold by the municipalities to private investors who wanted to make the fast money. No money was invested in these properties and as a result, the tenants moved out. After all tenants left the block of flats because of the bad living conditions, it was demolished and the area sold to prospective buyers for private homes.The houses, which had remained in the hands of housing cooperatives, became a better fate in part. These objects were renovated, there was a heat-insulating exterior facade and new windows. The tenants stayed in these houses and some acquired property by buying their own apartment. The people in these houses are satisfied and have further embellishment measures carried out by mutual agreement at the owners' meeting. The inhabitants of each individual block decide for themselves what is to be embellished on their own object. For example, some had an outside elevator built for their living area and the people in the neighbouring block preferred to have a new house facade.
