Artificially tumbled gravel is usually produced from angular remains of larger quarries.
By rolling in large grinding drums, relatively round stones are produced, with a greater loss of material through grinding and a high energy input, which are then sorted into typical grains like quartz gravel.
Due to the complex production process, such gravel is significantly more expensive than dredged gravel. For this purpose, there is an ever-increasing selection of colours and sizes from all over the world.
The most famous drummed pebble is the Carrara Gravel.
