A special case of the artificially rounded gravel types are almost polished stones, which are currently imported from China to Germany in several colours.
It is possible, for example, to produce almost black pebbles, although sometimes these can be given their dark colour by treatment with waxes or sealants, which then diminishes somewhat over the years.
Nevertheless such gravel is a strong design element.
Another special form are larger pebbles e.g. in 6-12cm, which are often sold under the name Beach Pebbles.
Such ornamental gravel is partly collected and sorted by hand in dry river courses. They look very natural and are usually somewhat flatter in shape. They are gladly taken to border garden fountains.
