Sliding shutters are shutters which are also called folding shutters in southern Germany, shutters in northern Germany and shutters in the new federal states. The sliding shutter is a movable device that is attached to the window from the outside and serves both as weather protection, sun protection, privacy screen and for decoration but also as burglary protection. Sliding shutters are made of various materials, mostly treated wood or aluminium. See also folding shutters. The more modern type of sliding shutters is called roller shutters. These are usually placed horizontally above the window.
