Flat roofs - for every type of building

Flat roof refers to those with no or a small roof pitch. There are upper limits on the roof pitch which can be referred to as flat roofs. In Germany the state building regulations determine these upper limits, as a rule of thumb a roof pitch of up to 10 degrees is the upper end for a building with a flat roof. Flat roofs expel a specialist roof construction, these roofs can be found in all construction groups. The flat roof directive recommends a roof pitch of between 5 and 10 degrees, the minimum amount should be 2 degrees. Under the DIN 18531 - roof insulation for the construction of flat roofs is clearly regulation.

Professional training in flat roofs offers different advantages and disadvantages. As an advantage there is an undisputed lower weight in roofing, in comparison to sloped roofs. Also an advantage is that the flat roofs can also be set up to have other uses such as parking levels, roof terraces, green roofs or also for the installation of necessary building technology. Also through the mounting of glass fields or glass domes the possibility exists to light rooms inside. The addition of stories and the extension of the building is unproblematic and is possible at any time. As a disadvantage there always proves to be leakages in the tiles or damage due to inner drainage. Here it is often problematic, to find the position of the leak, as the water finds its own route. And the water damage lies in places where the tiles are fully intact.

In multi story buildings often the ceiling of the highest story constitutes a component of the roof construction. Flat roofs can be constructed as thermal ceilings - none ventilated ceilings, as cold ceilings - ventilated ceilings, or as inverted roofs - external thermal insulation. By restoration and recompilation of flat roofs often the old tiles stay under the new tiles. This "DUO-Roof" should be checked beforehand for the technical viability of the construction and load transfer of the supporting construction.

Important for the proper functioning of a flat roof is the drainage and the thickness of the tiles. For the waterproofing of the roofing asphalt sheeting or plastic membrane is used.
