Staircases are stairs formed of steps or exits which are also called steps or stairs, depending on the region. These connect levels of different heights, mostly within buildings. Different terrain levels and means of transport can also be connected by stairs. In general, this designation applies to a structure with at least three steps, which can be composed of stairways and separation platforms. An important criterion is good accessibility, which is why there are standardized step spacings and height specifications.

Stairs are used in a wide variety of designs. In residential buildings e.g. wooden staircases, spiral staircases or attic staircases. More and more stairs made of aluminium, steel, cast iron or stone can be found on external facades.
