Mastic asphalt screed is a wood-free and dense mixture of filler (stone flour), sand, chippings or gravel and bitumen. The mixture of the aggregates is composed with a low void content. The binder content is adjusted to the cavities of the mineral mixture so that they are filled in the finished layer. At the processing temperature of approx. 240°C a small volume surplus of bitumen is produced. This is necessary for the processability. The composition must take into account:

• mechanical, thermal and climatic stresses

The production of mastic asphalt takes place in stationary mixing plants. The mix is transported to the construction site in hot condition in heated agitator tanks and, depending on the type of construction site, is laid by machine or by hand.
Mastic asphalt screeds require neither drying nor setting times. They are accessible and usable shortly after installation. They can be laid largely independent of weather conditions.
