Process water storage (often also known as industrial, service water or as process water storage) refers to the natural and artifical storage of  all service water (service water, process water, industrial water).

This water which is applied in specific technical, industrial, agricultural or domestic processes is not intended for human consumption but should however have a conscience minimum hygiene and stored separately from drinking water supplies.

The minimum hygiene is carried out in service water treatment plants (for example water desalination for the use in steam turbines) and adjusted for the technical requirements of the respective processes.

For the different areas of applications there are different types of service water storage, for example, water tanks, waste water storage, drinking water storage, hot water tanks and rain water tanks.

In smaller industrial operations or in private households combination cylinders, stainless steel tanks and hygiene tanks are preferably used.

To support for example heating systems heat storage such as buffer storage, heating buffer tank or the combi buffer memory can be installed. These serve to smooth the differences in the heat generation and keep the domestic water warm in storage.

The separation of the operating and drinking water supply is especially common in the industry.
