Sugar is a very important food for humans and also serves as a stimulant. Sugar is defined as all sweet-tasting single and double sugars. These double sugars are also called sucrose. Sugar is one of the few foodsthat does not have a best before date.
Sugar is obtained from sugar cane or sugar beet.
Sugar produced from sugar cane is chemically identical to sugar beet. In the producing country, for example Brazil and India, sugar cane is transferred as raw sugar to special sugar refineries, where it is dissolved and recrystallized in the refineries. This sugar is then delivered to the consumer in different varieties according to the consumer's wishes.
For sugar there are different applications. On the one hand, icing sugar, which consists of finely ground raffinades, is used in baking and the production of sugar icing. Baster sugar forms a moist crumbly mass and is also used for the production of bakery products.
The sugar cube is also a widespread processing of the food. The processing method, also known as lump sugar, consists of moistened raffinades which are pressed and then dried. Today, however, these are only rarely pressed into cubes, but rather into blocks.
