The term fireplace means, translated from Latin (caminus) into German, stove. It refers to a chimney and a stove, i.e. an open fireplace for generating heat. The chimney, in the meaning of a chimney, has a vertical shaft. With its help, combustion gases from furnaces are released into the atmosphere and fresh air is sucked in, which is subject to the physical principle that the heated combustion gases are lighter than the colder ambient air. The resulting pressure difference causes the drive force to be observed. This type of chimney can be distinguished by design and combustion material. Non-free standing chimneys, e.g. domestic chimneys and free standing chimneys such as factory chimneys or chimneys, exist. There are also flue gas chimneys designed for solid or liquid fuels and flue gas chimneys used for gaseous fuels. More often, however, the term"fireplace" is used in its other meaning. This is an open fireplace which is built into a wall niche or is free-standing and allows heat to escape only through radiation. This heat is generated by burning biogenic or fossil fuels. Depending on the intended use, the trade offers various forms of fireplaces. Thus there are fireplaces as boilers, for water heating, for the operation of a central heating system or simply for upgrading the interior design.
