The idea of underfloor heating is not entirely new. Even the Romans appreciated a warm and comfortable floor. This comfort makes it possible to walk barefoot in winter. In addition, this type of heating has an advantage in the interior design. Dust and mites are also limited. In wet systems, underfloor heating is usually laid under the screed. The concrete slab is provided with different layers of insulation. Usually polystyrene is used for this. A very soft, final insulating layer is applied to the polystyrene. On this layer the different pipes of the underfloor heating are laid in the form of a meander. The pipes are fixed with plastic anchors by pressing them into the soft insulating layer. The heating pipes are usually made of plastic. Sometimes copper is also used. However, by co-heating the entire screed, the wet system needs a longer time to heat up. However, the floor covering also keeps you warm for longer because a lot of mass has been heated. In the dry system, the pipes are located directly under the floor covering but above the screed. Heat conduction plates are then used to achieve a better temperature distribution. This system is mainly used in older buildings. The big advantage here is that the floor covering heats up much faster than with a wet system.
