Oil heaters have been more in demand than ever in recent years. At present, oil heaters are still among the cheapest devices for producing hot water. In an oil-fired heating system, mainly heating oil is burned. The heat generated by combustion is used to produce warm water. This warm water is then fed into the heating or service water circuit in the heat exchanger. There are two basic types of oil heaters. For one thing, oil combustion without auxiliary energy and oil combustion with auxiliary energy. With oil combustion without auxiliary energy, the oil itself is heated to a certain temperature. The oil is heated with the heat of combustion. A separate supply of external energy is therefore not necessary. The oil burners are also called evaporative burners. They can be found mainly as individual fireplaces in a separate oil furnace. Usually they have a built-in tank. In oil combustion with auxiliary energy, the oil is usually electrically preheated. The oil is injected into the combustion chamber via a pump and a nozzle. This makes it possible to achieve considerably higher outputs in a smaller space. The oil-air mixture is ignited with an ignition device. In a heating system which is operated with an oil heater, one should fall back on the installation of a buffer storage tank. This considerably increases the efficiency of the oil heating system through better utilisation.
