Plasma diffusion treatment is a thermochemical heat treatment process in which the chemical composition of a material is intentionally changed in the surface layer area by diffusing one or more elements (e.g. nitrogen) in or out. Pulsed plasma technology can be used in practically every branch of industry where abrasion, corrosion and wear must be counteracted by a hard surface. In addition, the service life of the workpieces is increased accordingly. The workpieces are exposed to a relatively low temperature during pulse plasma nitriding, which ensures high dimensional stability. The core hardness is not affected. Therefore a post treatment is not necessary. The structure, thickness and hardness of the nitriding layer are controllable and can be individually adapted to the application.
