Sintered Parts
By the specific selection of the metal powders, end product properties can be achieved exactly. Complicated shapes are achieved with tight tolerances in one pressing step without expensive reworking. Calibration (post-pressing) makes the tolerance field even more accurate. Mechanical, chemical or thermal finishing is also possible.
Materials
The factory specifications for sintered parts are standardized in their properties and designations in the material data sheet according to DIN 30910 - Part 4 (see PDF). The sintered materials are divided into different classes, which are identified by letters; the criterion for classification is porosity, expressed by the ratio of material to total volume of the sintered part. Each class of materials is particularly suitable for certain areas of application due to its properties.

AMF® sintered components have very good shaping properties and are usually ready for installation without the need for reworking, such as turning, milling or drilling, and are characterised by a high degree of accuracy in the following process for large quantities.
Advantages of AMF® sintered parts:
- Complex shaped bodies without machining
- High accuracy
- Good surface quality
- Density
- Good fatigue strength
- Vibration damping
- Tightness
- Complex materials and non-feasible alloys
- Isotropic material structures
- Components ready for assembly
- Self-lubrication
- Reliability for large series
- Low investment costs
- Energy saving
- Environmental protection
- Forms not achievable by other methods
Components made of sintered materials have become important means of cost reduction and rationalization. They are found particularly in the automotive industry, in the manufacture of household appliances and machines, in the production of mechanically operated office machines and printing machines.
The type of use of sintered parts depends on the material, the size of the pore space, the pressing pressure and the sintering temperature.
Highly porous sintered parts are used, for example, as sinter filters. Porous sintered parts, which are soaked with oil, are used as plain bearings. These oil-soaked, self-lubricating sintered metal plain bearings have particularly good sliding properties.
Sintered steel parts are used in numerous products, e.g. as gear wheels, chain wheels, bearing caps, clutch bodies, hinges, sleeves, pinions, etc.
