A crane system is a number of interconnected conveyors for the vertical and horizontal loading and removal of heavy objects. The load capacity ranges from several hundred kilos to several hundred tons. Cranes can be operated manually or controlled by steam or combustion engines and electric motors. According to their composition, a distinction is made between jib cranes, tower cranes and bridge cranes. A jib crane has the so-called horizontal jib at the upper end of a vertical mast. A weight is moved horizontally by turning the jib or the entire crane. This load displacement is also possible when the hoist (crane system) is moved along the boom with a trolley. The tower crane is constructed with a cantilever or cantilever system. This crane model consists of a movable jib mounted at the bottom of the base plate of its vertical mast. The mast is colloquially called a tower and gives this crane system its name. A mast reinforcement or various counterweights prevent the boom from tilting to the side. An overhead crane consists of a horizontal beam running on rails at both ends. This allows longitudinal movement. The so-called trolley moves along the beam, allowing a transverse movement. An overhead crane normally runs on raised rails. In contrast, a portal or gate crane system is permanently mounted on legs that run along rails that are firmly anchored in the ground.
