Perceptron (NASDAQ:PRCP) was founded in 1981 by graduates of the General Motors Institute (now: Kettering University) in Michigan, USA. Working closely with an automotive manufacturer, they studied the negative impact of process variations on complex assembly operations in industrial production and concluded "that a process that cannot be measured cannot be effectively controlled or optimized."
Based on then-revolutionary machine vision technology and with a great deal of pioneering spirit, these engineers developed an innovative metrology solution that not only allowed for the immediate detection and efficient containment of quality problems as they arose, but also enabled the targeted search for their causes and thus a reduction in process variances. The result was groundbreaking - the first practical 100% inline process measurement system that could be used in the harsh conditions of industrial manufacturing.
Since those early days, we have continued to evolve, leveraging our relevant experience and expertise, our global corporate structure, and our broad product portfolio to provide high-performance solutions for diverse applications at automotive manufacturers and their suppliers, as well as moving into other markets (e.g., household appliances, aerospace, and heavy machinery).
