The computer - A model of success The computer has had an unprecedented triumphal march over the last few years. The foundation stone of today's computer was laid by Zuse in World War II. Many of the everyday things would not be possible without a computer. Computers are available today in a wide variety of shapes and colors. From laptops to desktop computers to tablets. Over the last decade, the technology has become increasingly sophisticated, powerful and smaller. The basic components of a computer haven't changed much. Besides the input and output devices, such as keyboard, mouse and screen, there is the mainboard. All important components are built into it. The central processing unit (CPU), also called processor, is located here. The processor requires a working memory (RAM) in which it briefly stores the data. Fixed data is stored on the hard disk (HDD). A graphics card displays the output on the screen to the user. In addition to these classic computers, there are a whole series of high-performance computers. They are used for complicated processes, such as climate calculations or password cracking. Furthermore, so-called microcontrollers are used in industry and technology. These can be programmed as required to perform certain functions. For example, modern washing machines, consumer electronics, or modern and fully automated production lines are only possible in industry.
