Bowling Lane

Bowling lanes are generally made out of varnished wood or also synthetic material. These are additionally coated with a thin layer of oil in order to guarentee the possible frictionless sliding of the ball. However the last part of the lane, which amuounts to about one third remains unoiled.  Without the application of oil the strong rotation of every throw will be carried into the gutter.
Thereby the texture of the ball also plays an important role. Therefore professional players have several different hard and soft balls to adapt to changing track conditions. Basically, one divides the lane into the following parts. Firstly, in the so-called run-up. Here the actual throw is executed. Furthermore, there is the foul line, which separates the lane from the run-up and which therefore must not be stepped over. Most of these lines are additionally equipped with a light barrier. Most of the lane is the tread. This runs between the pin deck and start range. This may not be entered. Here the bowling ball rolls towards the ten pins at the end of the route. This route is in turn divided into heads, pines and backend and refers to the different oils of these sections.
The pin deck refers to the area of the pins and gutters refers to the two depressions left and right of the track.
