A cold light source is a high-performance light source. It emits a light with a very strongly reduced infrared component. These light sources have a contrast-enhancing effect. A cold light source is always used when high intensity light is required in the visible spectrum, the heat generated during the operation of a normal light source, but which would be disturbing or even harmful. These light sources are often used in optical devices such as microscopes or endoscopes. But this technology is also used in car headlights, for example with dipped and main beam light.Cold light sources are usually gas discharge lamps such as halogen or xenon lamps with a reflector. This concentrates the light generated on an optical fiber, such as a glass fiber. From there, the generated light is directed to the desired point. Endoscopes, which are devices designed for examinations inside living organisms, use this technique. Of course, these light sources also generate heat. However, this is then filtered out of the lamp housing but must not release stray light.
