Fleet Management does not have a fixed definition. Different service providers in this area differ in definition. In general, however, it can be understood to mean everything that is involved in the daily management - including controlling - of vehicle fleets, regardless of vehicle type. This includes the administration, planning, control and monitoring of trucks, cars, ships and the railway. To implement this management, more and more web-based solutions and digital fleet management are used, which uses software based on GPS systems, computer-aided order proposals and digital representations. Fleet management is used in companies that have a large number of vehicles used for business purposes. These include, for example, freight forwarders, taxi companies and car rental companies. An example from the area of responsibility of fleet management is the coordination and definition of selected routes for the vehicles to be supported, so that a smooth course of the core business is guaranteed. A special type of transport in this context is piggyback transport, which tries to combine various means of transport to deliver goods. But activities such as vehicle maintenance, repair and provision of load securing systems are also included.
