Description

An envelope (also: envelope, envelope or Enveloppe - obsolete -) is the shipping packaging of a letter.
History: Originally, letters were not packed in separate envelopes, but only protected from unauthorized access by folding or rolling up and sealing, as paper was a precious raw material. Later on, from a business management point of view, this process became more and more cost-intensive and time-consuming than a ready-made envelope for inserting and sealing the letter. In today's correspondence, envelopes are used almost exclusively to protect the contents, with the exception of direct mail.
Envelopes were first sold in 1820 by the book and stationery dealer S. K. Brewer in Brighton. He cut the envelopes to size using metal templates. As a result of the rapidly growing demand, in 1835 Brewer placed an order with the London company Dobbs & Comp. for the production of envelopes as mass articles. The first machine for making envelopes was developed by E. Hill and W. De La Rue, London, in 1844
Material: Envelope paper must be opaque, writeable, printable and foldable. It is produced wood-free and wood-containing, smooth or satin-finished on one side, white and coloured, but recycled paper with Blue Angel is also used. Recently, FSC or PEFC papers, whose pulp comes from sustainable forestry, are increasingly being used for envelopes. FSC envelopes sometimes carry the WWF panda bear logo. There are also envelopes made of synthetic fibres, transparent or translucent foil and envelopes made of a thread-reinforced material.
For business letters on A4 paper, the most common envelope formats in Germany are DIN long (C5/6, DL) for manual filling, C6/5 for machine filling and C4. The C6/5 format is by far the most frequently used format in Germany and is used as envelopes for automatic inserting.
Private mail is also often sent in C6 size envelopes that can hold A6 size postcards. Large and heavy products are often shipped in gusseted pockets with side gussets and block bottom in formats B5 to E4.
Inscription: Deutsche Post expects the inscription to be parallel to the longer side of the viewing window or envelope, the franking in a 40 mm high and 74 mm wide field at the top right, the sender's address in the 40 mm high strip to the left and the addressee's address in the remaining area at least 15 mm from the outer edge. The destination code is printed in the area below the address.
use: Envelopes are sealed by gluing the slightly overlapping, folded over open side (short flap) to the envelope. Either dry, water-soluble adhesive is used, which is moistened during sealing, or they are self-adhesive. The blue glow when opening a self-adhesive closure is called triboluminescence. For high-quality envelopes, pressure-sensitive adhesive with cover strips is often used. The latter are mainly used for high-quality business mail. The name and address of the addressee are written on the front of the envelope, while the sender's details are traditionally written on the back or top left of the front.
Window envelopes are also frequently used in the business sector, in which the addressee's address is not written on the envelope, but the letter with the address in the letterhead is placed in the envelope in such a way that the address is visible through the window, for example in accordance with DIN 5008. There are different fold types for the different envelopes so that the addresses are visible in the window. Window envelopes have a print or stamp with the sender's details usually either on the front or above the address on the letterhead so that they are visible in the window.

Mail Envelope - Manufacturers, Traders & Suppliers

Mail Envelope
Envelopes are just as indispensable in the commercial sector as they are in the private sector. While only a few envelopes and mailing bags are usually required for individual correspondence, economically active companies usually need the envelopes in larger quantities and many different designs. The variety of what is listed under the collective term envelope is very large. The range of possibilities extends from the classic windowless envelope in the current DIN formats to padded envelopes. Window envelopes DIN long are used particularly frequently in the commercial sector. Here, the address window with a view of the addressee on the letterhead saves the need for further labeling or printing of the envelopes. Other DIN formats with windows are also ideal for sending orders, invoices and other commercial mail. Self-adhesive envelopes are a decision for the right comfort, especially when a lot of mail is always on its way.As selected tasks in shipping or also when sending product samples and samples can be implemented with envelopes. The envelopes are the large form of the envelopes, which are characterized above all by their size and load capacity. For the dispatch of sensitive and valuable contents, padded pockets offer a good prerequisite. For operational equipment, we recommend stocking with a sufficient number of envelopes and mailing pockets in the current DIN formats. It is in the particular interest of companies to rely on high-quality envelopes. After all, the envelope is often the first contact of customers, partners and interested parties with a company. An envelope or also envelope (also written envelope) is a packaging especially for the dispatch of a letter. In colloquial language, this is therefore also referred to as an envelope. Envelopes are available in various designs. Like almost everything in Germany, the envelope is also standardized. But whether C6 or B4, with window or without window, made of recycled paper or snow-white, self-adhesive or wet-glued, the task is the same for all envelopes. The letter, the cover letter or in general the papers should be protected on the way to the recipient. Also with the recycling the envelope is right at the front. Waste paper is used as the raw material for the envelope. This, in turn, can be easily recycled. The inspection windows (also referred to as window films) can be easily filtered out after deinking of the waste paper and then recycled separately. These are incinerated in the paper mills' incinerators. As different as the envelopes are, as different as the names are for them. Here are just a few examples: Dust jackets, mailing envelopes, envelopes, self-adhesive envelopes, etc.
