What is customs clearance?As soon as the goods cross a customs border, the owner of the goods must pay the so-called customs duty. Customs are taxes, i.e. taxes are paid on goods and products. Provided that a customs declaration (a tax return to customs) has been made beforehand, the goods will be "released" after payment. This procedure is called customs clearance.Application examples for customs clearanceA classic example for customs clearance can be found at airports. Here it is checked whether new goods are imported or exported.Where is customs clearance?Customs clearance is used at airports, roads (toll), bridges, national borders and railway stations.A practical example of customs clearance is the following situation: A retailer buys goods in the USA that he wants to sell in Germany. In order to be able to clear his goods without problems, he must first make a customs declaration. Now the trader has to pay an import duty so that he can bring his goods to the Federal Republic of Germany and sell them now.
