for non-contact distance and displacement measurements. The 118x Series
functions according to the phase comparison principle. In doing so, modulated
laser light is permanently transmitted to the object. The receiver compares the
phase offset of the transmitted signal with the received signal, enabling the
distance to be precisely calculated. All remaining models in the optoNCDT ILR series operate according to the
Time-of-Flight principle. Here, a laser pulse is transmitted and the time it
takes for the reflected pulse to arrive back at the sensor is precisely
measured. The distance can be measured based on the speed of light and the
measured time period. Depending on the application and the required measuring
range, the sensors operate on diffuse reflecting surfaces or on a special
reflector plate.
