The dynamic measuring principle of the wet strain tester realizes the determination of the temporal course of wet strain on paper. The absorption of the liquid through the fibres causes dimensional changes due to swelling. Paper fibres swell more in the transverse direction than in the longitudinal direction. In order to achieve comparable measurements, measurements must be taken at a standard climate (23 °C, 50 % RH) and with a defined counterweight. The sample can be measured in different test liquids. By setting the immersion and post-expansion time, the measurement can be optimally adjusted to the application process. In test practice, the Mütek regulation for CD and MD in the decor sector has established itself for wet expansion testing in addition to the fennel standard. The comfortable handling of the emco wet strain tester NDT 100-S has proven itself in practice and is therefore highly appreciated by many customers. With the further development of the emco NDT wet strain tester it is possible to apply all three test methods in one device. Since the wet expansion is strongly influenced by the initial moisture level of the sample, a significantly higher elongation would be achieved with dry ambient air than with a measurement in a standard climate. That is why emco offers the emco NDT with an optional climate version. The measurements are always carried out at 50 % humidity, regardless of the ambient climate.
