In order to be able to accurately characterize materials in industry or research, it is necessary to test their properties. This is done by so-called materials testing machines. Standardized specimens are clamped in machine transducers and subjected to various loads. These can include bending, torsional or tensile forces. The material behaviour can be documented as a function of the load by means of displacement and force transducers on the materials testing machines. Probably the most used materials testing machine is the tensile test rig. The sample is clamped in a holder on both sides and pulled apart. The specimen is deformed by the stress until it tears at the maximum endurable force. The measured variables recorded make it possible to set up material-characteristic stress-strain curves. The strength values determined by materials testing machines, as shown in the stress-strain diagram, are used for the design and construction of technical components. Therefore, such test benches are mainly used in the development and quality assurance of products. Other tests carried out on test benches are, for example, the bending test, the adhesive pull-off test, the shear test and the hardness test.
