chitoderm® is a new, bioactive medical device which can beneficially influence the tissue of acute and chronic wounds of greatly differing types and severity.
Local treatment of burns, skin abrasions, venous leg ulcers pressure sores.
Hemostatic action: property independent of the coagulation factors, but which is based on the interaction between chitosan and the endothelium or the blood cells.
Anti-inflammatory action: This is triggered by the decreasing concentration of the inflammatory mediators (histamine, serotonin etc.).
Bacteriostatic action: Interaction between the positively charged amino groups of chitosan and the negative charges of the microbial cell membranes.
Absorption of excess blood/exudate: The excess exudate is removed, thereby supporting the cellular activity and the growth factors for tissue renewal.
Synthesis of connective tissue: Stimulation of fibroblast proliferation and modulation of neutrophil granulocytes.
