Selection criteria of contact wheels and their influence on grinding performance and the grinding belt

General rules for the selection of the suitable contact wheel can only be established to a limited extent, as the use of the suitable wheel always depends on the workpiece to be machined. However, the influence of the contact wheel on the grinding result should not be underestimated; it determines success to the same extent as the right grinding belt. Its service life and degree of utilisation is in turn largely determined by the selection of the right contact wheel. Decades of experience as a supplier of high quality and durable contact wheels naturally allows us to make a few statements that can be taken as a guideline:
The manure contact discs we manufacture with rubber or plastic coating (ELAX® GO ... or ELAX® V ...) are equally suitable for wet, oil or dry sanding. Their degree of hardness, which is an important factor for achieving the desired grinding result, is measured in "Shore". There are also common terms such as "extra soft" = approx. 30 Shore, "soft" = approx. 40 Shore, "medium hard" = approx. 60 Shore, "hard" = approx. 80 Shore and "extra hard" = approx. 90 Shore.
Contact wheels with textile coverings can only be used for dry grinding.
The selection of the scoring leads to a high stock removal, therefore the use of coarser grits of the abrasive belt is logical. Contact wheels with a smooth surface are better suited for finer grit sizes. The creasing we call "R" is the standard creasing for universal grinding, while the creasing called "L" allows finer, more even stock removal. In addition, there are other types of creasing, which we will specify if suitable, e.g. so-called sawtooth creasing.

Contact wheels are provided by us with a standard bore of 56 mm. Please state any dimensions deviating from these when ordering. Discs that we keep in stock for you are brought to the dimension you require by using reducing bushes.
