Brown Coal Briketts
Lignite briquettes are made from lignite. Lignite is one of the traditional and classic solid fuels. It is used in cookers, single ovens or automatic ovens. Heating with lignite has been a continuing trend for decades, as lignite can also be used in modern stoves or tiled stoves. The calorific value of one kilogram of lignite is 6.0 kWh. This means that the calculated calorific value of 6,000 kWh can be achieved with a ton of lignite briquettes. This quantity currently corresponds to a price of about 180 euros. In addition to low heating costs and good heating performance, lignite briquettes are also a fossil fuel. According to estimates by geologists, the domestic lignite deposit is around 77 billion tons. The amount would be enough to continue the current production for centuries to come. Lignite is therefore a safe energy reserve. Lignite consists of 55 percent water, 40 percent pure coal and 5 percent ash. The ash- and anhydrous raw coal consists of about two thirds nitrogen, carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. Due to the relatively high water content, however, lignite has a lower calorific value compared to other fossil fuels. In addition to this aspect, the sulphur and ash content also plays a role in the use of lignite briquettes. Today, about 90 percent of the lignite mined is used to generate electricity within the power plants.
