As early as the 1930s, Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Zickel was concerned with the possibilities of thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics for vehicle and machine construction. In 1958, Dipl.-Ing. H. Zickel and the shipowner Mr. W. Bruns founded the company Industrie Plastic Zickel GmbH & Co. KG, today also known in short form as I-plastic Bonn.
