An injection moulding machine is used to produce a directly usable plastic product from a raw material plastic - usually in the form of granules. The injection moulding machine essentially consists of the injection screw with hopper and the negative mould into which the molten material is injected. The functionality is relatively simple: The molten granulate is injected into the heated mould which is closed or opened by hydraulics. Once the material is injected into the mould and the injection point is reached, water automatically flows through the mould, which cools it and hardens the material. Then the mould opens and ejection units shoot the product out of the mould. Mould making is also an important department in this sector, because without the right mould nothing can be injected.Application of these machines can be found in companies specialising in plastics technology. They produce parts for the automotive, electrical and toy industries. This is how mobile phone covers, car trims and large numbers of game pieces are created. Often, however, the products still have to be checked or debriefed by hand. This is especially necessary for large parts in order to detect possible surface defects during a faulty injection process.
