Precision plastic parts are plastic parts manufactured through high-precision moulding processes with small dimensional tolerances (usually ±0.01-0.05 mm), high surface finish, and the ability to meet complex structural design requirements. These parts are widely used in areas with stringent requirements for precision and reliability, such as medical equipment, electronic components, automotive sensors, etc.
Commonly used precision plastic materials include:
Engineering plastics: such as ABS, PC (polycarbonate), PA (nylon), POM (polyacetal), etc., with good mechanical properties and heat resistance;
High-performance plastics: such as PEEK, PTFE, PPS, etc., for occasions with high requirements for chemical resistance and high temperature resistance;
Speciality plastics: for special functional parts, such as flame retardant, UV resistant or conductive plastics.
Design and process optimisation
When designing precision plastic components, the following points need to be addressed:
Structural design: Optimise wall thickness distribution, increase reasonable extraction angle to avoid moulding defects or processing deformation due to over-thinning or over-thickness;
Dimensional tolerances: set reasonable tolerances according to assembly requirements, not only to ensure the function of the part, but also to avoid unnecessary processing costs;
Thermal stress control: Consider the shrinkage and thermal expansion characteristics of the plastic when designing, and reserve appropriate machining allowances;
Assembly and subsequent processing: reserve assembly clearance, consider the subsequent spraying, plating or other surface treatment process on the size of the impact.
Processing methods
The main processing methods for precision plastic parts include:
Injection moulding
Commonly used in mass production, suitable for complex structure parts. By optimising the mould design and controlling the injection parameters (temperature, pressure, injection speed, etc.) to ensure the dimensional stability and surface quality of the parts.
CNC machining
For small and medium batches or plastic parts that require post-processing finishing, CNC milling, turning, drilling and other machining methods can be used to achieve high precision requirements. CNC machining is especially suitable for modifying injection moulded parts or carrying out secondary processing.
Laser cutting and engraving
Suitable for thin-walled or simple geometrical plastic sheet processing, which can realise fast, contactless processing and ensure a flat cut.
3D Printing / Additive Manufacturing
For prototyping and low-volume custom production, precision 3D printing enables rapid prototyping of complex structural parts, but subsequent machining is often required to meet accuracy requirements.

Surface treatment and post-processing
