Polyethylene is a plastic with thermoplastic properties, which means that when heated it becomes soft and malleable. From a molecular point of view, it consists of carbon and hydrogen atoms, the carbon atoms are linked together in a chain and form the basic structure of the polymer. Polyethylene is produced by polymerizing ethene, which is usually obtained from crude oil. In short, polyethylene is also known as PE.PE is the most frequently used plastic worldwide and thus an important raw material for the plastics processing industry. By varying the polymerization processes, different PE types can be produced, which differ in their density and in their areas of application. PE-LD and PE-LLD have a low density and are often used for the production of films, such as waste bags and shrink films, and for cable sheathing. PE-HD, on the other hand, is used for the production of injection moulded parts, for example household goods and technical articles, due to its higher density. It can also be processed into hollow bodies such as bottles.
