The requirements of the customers for castings are becoming more and more demanding. They have to become lighter (the castings are becoming thinner and thinner), but at the same time the stressability (e.g. better strength properties) should increase. Added to this are faster machining times combined with higher cutting speeds. In short, with increasing casting quality and more economical production, the error rate must be minimized.
It is known that despite good melt treatment, melt guidance, casting and gating system and cleanliness, casting errors are unavoidable and thus even the smallest inclusions can lead to dangerous predetermined breaking points in highly stressed castings.The aim of the use of filters is thus to reduce inclusions of all kinds, regardless of their origin, to a minimum and thus to make the casting process safer, minimise the fault tolerance and increase the casting quality.Casting filters have become an indispensable part of the casting process!
