Alarm systems are usually electronic devices warn dangers such as fire, burglary etc. through a loud signal. In a large number of banks there are so called silent alarms. Furthermore a lot of fire alarms in public buildings send a signal to a central office so that emergency vehicles from the fire department arrive timely to the fire.
