The shelf inspection according to DGUV rule 108-007 (BGR 234) and DIN EN 15635 serves the safety at the workplace, because shelves can fall over and collapse.

Storage facilities (racking systems) are work equipment and are subject in Germany to the Industrial Safety Ordinance and therefore the responsibility of the operator. Shelving systems must therefore be inspected at least once a year by a competent person. The sequence of inspections and the obligation to inspect racking systems is regulated by the new European draft standard DIN EN 15635.
