Advertisements are notices that were earlier made public through print media. Nowadays an increasing number of notices have also switched to the internet. The content is different and depends on the individual objective of the customer. In all business and private relations ads are applied. Through small notices in daily newspapers and weekly publications renters offer their apartments, tradesmen advertise their services, singles look for contacts, household furniture or cars are for sale.

In the design these advertisements are mostly straight text notices. They are quite cheap and often times free. Frequently that will satisfy the publication. Companies operate advertisements in order to advertise a product range, an individual product or to specify a service. These advertisements should awaken notice and through the clear, topical information speak to the emotions of the reader. In the ideal situation an impulse purchase will be provoked. Advertisements are designed elaborately with pictures and lots of colour. Depending on the publication and size of the advertisements enormous costs can be spent.

Advertising campaigns are quite common. The advertisement is published multiple times with partially changing motivations so that it has a lasting effect on the customer's thoughts. Advertisements are also used in order to for example to support the impact of TV-spots. Despite the internet large companies are still using other forms of advertisng such as personal advertisements in respective regional and national daily newspapers.
